Tanner, Ala. – (WHNT) The remarkable run of two consecutive state championships is in the Tanner Rattlers rear view mirror. Now head coach Laron White and his team are eyeing a third and their work cut out for them. Getting back to Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2014 is going to take some great performances from some new faces, particularly across the offensive and defensive lines. Baltizar Rubio Shamaud Baker and Seth Townsend each started both ways on the line and losing that trio will be tough, but coach White is not too concerned.
“These kids have been working hard. We had a good group that left, and a good group left the year before that. All we have to do is be patient with our guys and keep on working hard and we’ll be alright,” White said in the team locker room after practice last week.
There is a good group of seniors on the team but just one starter left from the 2012 championship squad that won it all in Auburn. Ronald Taylor played linebacker on that team and does not feel like motivation is a problem. “I was on the 2011 team where we lost in the championship. That feeling really sucked and I don’t want that feeling again. Winning is on my mind and that is what I’m striving for.”
Tanner opens it’s title defense on Friday August 22nd at West Limestone.
