Kids to Love: Pack the Backpacks Success! 5,068 Foster Kids Served!

We’ve been collecting school supplies and Packing the Backpacks for foster kids through Kids to Love.  We couldn’t do it without all the hands that help us!

The school supplies are sorted by type and packed by grade by Kids to Love volunteers.

“I’m excited to be here because I like helping to help people.  Today I’ve been sorting out notebooks and stuff for foster kids,” Isabella Payne said.

More sorting, more notebooks, more pen bags.

“It’s heartwarming to see people give up their time whether they work full-time jobs or not, willing to take away from their families, time from their jobs,” Leanne Fields said.

The supplies help provide for children who have no families and otherwise would go without needed items to start the school year.

“It’s important to me,” said Fields.  “I have a personal connection in that I was kinda in a similar situation as a young child in California and there wasn’t an organization like that in California for this.  So, this is special.”

Volunteers are the backbone of the Kids to Love Foundation.  When we find people who understand why we work to meet the immediate needs of foster children, then we have the opportunity to not only reach, but teach the next generation.

“I kinda have a relation to this because I was adopted when I was little,” said Isabella Payne.  “It’s really nice cause I get to know that they actually get school supplies this year.”

Volunteers sort and pack the items and social workers pick up and deliver them to families in various counties.

“Foster children, they’re gonna be so excited! I love these colors this year,” one social worker said.

“We are just so grateful that Lee Marshall & Kids to Love just looks over all the kids in north Alabama.  We sure appreciate what she does for the kids in Marshall County,” said Martha McClendon with the Marshall County Department of Human Resources.

This year, with your help, we were able to provide school supplies for 5,068 kids in foster care across Alabama and Tennessee.

Thanks to so many of you who gave supplies, money and time to make sure every foster child has the supplies they need just in time to head back to class.
