Huntsville, Ala. – (WHNT) When Eddie Stewart took over the Grissom football program, he knew there would be tough times ahead. Stewart is not new to the team, spending the last few years as the Tigers Defensive Coordinator and is well aware of the recent struggles. 0-10 was the record last season, but that is in the past.
“No where to go but up for us, and we are definitely heading in that direction already and we haven’t played a ball game. We are preaching to these guys about character, dignity, integrity, discipline and doing the right things. They are doing that right now,” Stewart said during Tigers practice this week.
Part of the process includes creating a family atmosphere. The Tigers have been hanging out together off the field all summer long including a team rafting trip right before school began. The senior class does not want to graduate without making noise on the field and one of it’s leaders is pushing the charge.
Eric Williams will be called on to make plays on the field and inspire younger guys off it. “We have had some tough years, really hard. Just trying to turn things around, and build on what we have been working on all summer. We are just trying to improve and right the ship.”
The Tigers open the season Thursday night August 28th against Albertville at Louis Crews Stadium
