World’s Longest Yard Sale gets underway with thousands of vendors along 690 miles

Addison, Michigan to Gadsden, Ala. (WHNT) – Good news for anyone who enjoys yard sales — today begins the mother of all yard sales.

It’s appropriately named the World’s Longest Yard Sale and it starts today.

There are thousands of vendors participating, who set up at dawn and don’t break down til dusk.

It starts in Addison, Michigan and goes 690 miles, ending in Gadsden.  (The sale is also known as the 127 Sale because that’s how it started in 1987.  It has grown considerably since then.)

It’s a totally free event.  Organizers encourage people to sign up, so they get on the list of vendors and yardsalers can find them.

According to the yard sale’s website, there are only three vendors in Alabama participating — one in Fort Payne and two in Gadsden.

The route in Alabama takes the scenic Lookout Mountain Parkway, which leaves Chattanooga as TN-148 and then becomes different highways down through Gadsden.  It goes through Mentone, Desoto State Park, Fischer, Fort Payne, and Five Points, so there may be other vendors along the way.

Organizers pride themselves on all the weird things that you’ll find in the sale.

The sale goes through Sunday and vendors usually open up for business around 8am each day.

Happy Yard Saling!

I live in Trinity, Alabama and I would love to go see the worlds longest yard sale, I have never been to one. I just need to know where to go to see it. I entered worlds longest yard sale in my GPS and needless to say, it didn’t have an address for that. Can you please help me out with directions or an address I can use, just to find the yard sale?

Hi there…we have links to the official website of the World’s Longest Yard Sale in our webstory. If you click on those links it will take you to the route… Along Scenic Lookout Mountain Parkway from Tennessee Highway 148 South to Gadsden, which is the end point. Good luck!
