Armed Forces Week celebration underway

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Armed Forces Week is once again being celebrated in Huntsville, Madison and Madison County. City, county, state and federal dignitaries met Monday morning for the signing of a proclamation at the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial.

While many communities recognize Armed Forces Day, Madison Mayor Troy Trulock says he believes this is the only area to dedicate an entire week to honoring the armed forces. “That just shows the support we have in the Tennessee Valley for our military,” he says. Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle agrees, adding, “you have a community that is very involved with the Army, with the Navy, with the Air Force, with the whole Department of Defense area and that area…deserves more than a day.”

Lieutenant General Patricia McQuistion is Deputy Commanding General of the US Army Materiel Command. She expressed her gratitude for the support, saying, “when the community comes together to recognize the impact the arsenal has, not just on this community but on our nation and our allies around the world, it means everything.”
