HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Veterans of North Alabama Services Assistance Program (VON-ASAP) started working a little more than a year.  In that time, the organization has helped more than 200 veterans in need, but now they need your help to continue their work in the Tennessee Valley.

Among the services they provide, the organization tries to furnish the homes of homeless veterans once they find housing.

“I have not had one who is not overwhelmingly grateful to get the assistance. They say ‘Wow! I didn`t realize people did this’,” said organization President Jane Dow.

Stock-piled at their office are dishes and bed linens, lamps, and kitchen appliances. But there isn’t much room for anything else.

Recently Redstone Arsenal donated more than a dozen couches, as well as recliners, tables and desks to VON-ASAP.

But Dow says they have no place to store the furniture and are in desperate need of a donated storage space.

“We have not acquired enough money to just go out and purchase storage space because that gets quite expensive,” explained Dow. “So since we cannot afford storage space we need someone who can donate storage space for us. ”

Currently the furniture is being held on the Arsenal, but Dow says they need a space that is readily accessible for when a veteran needs it. She’s asking for at least a 20 by 20 space that they could lease anywhere from 6 months to a year. It can be a formal storage unit or warehouse.

“We’re talking about a lot of furniture, but you`re also talking about a lot of help to people who need it.”
