HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Huntsville Stars came back for the second straight night against the Chattanooga Lookouts late in the game to pull out a victory.
Nick Shaw’s two-run double in the bottom of the ninth gave the Stars a 5-4 win over the Lookouts Monday night at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.
The Stars were trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the ninth.
Jhan Marinez(5-1) came in looking for his first save of the season for the Lookouts. Robinson Diaz led off with an infield single. Two batters later with one out, Kentrail Davis singled into right field.
With runners at first and second base and with one out, Marinez got Shea Vucinich to hit a ground ball to the third baseman Daniel Mayora. Mayora, was trying to start a potential double play and his throw to second went into right field loading the bases.
Pinch hitter Adam Weisenburger then worked a bases loaded walk scoring Diaz making it 4-3.
Shaw then came to the plate and drove a pitch over the right fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker’s head for a game winning two-run double scoring Davis and Vucinich.
Tim Dillard(5-1) earned the win out of the Stars bullpen. Dillard pitched two scoreless innings.
The Lookouts took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as they capitalized on back to back fielding errors by shortstop Yadiel Rivera. O’Koyea Dickson and Daniel Mayora produced back to back rbi singles.
The Stars tied the game in the bottom of the first on a two-run homer by Hector Gimenez, his first of the season.
The Lookouts took a 3-2 lead in the second off Huntsville starter Eric Marzec on an Angel Sanchez rbi single.
The Lookouts took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on Hazelbaker’s rbi triple.
Marzec, took a no-decision after pitching five innings. He allowed seven hits on four runs(two earned). Marzec also walked five and struck out four.
The Stars(18-20, 64-44) lead the Lookouts(13-23, 39-67) 2-1 in their series which continues Tuesday. The Stars will have LHP Jed Bradley(3-5, 4.25) on the mound. Chattanooga will send RHP LHP Chris Reed(4-5, 3.19) to the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 3:45 pm CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com
