MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) – Several residents awoke Wednesday morning to the sight of red and green spray paint covering homes and cars.

Police are trying to track down those who caused thousands of dollars in property damage.

“Calls started coming in around 5:30 or 6:00 this morning,” explained Lt. Cedric Morris with Muscle Shoals Police Department.

Across Muscle Shoals, police said someone spray painted disturbing words and symbols on garage doors and all over vehicles.

The words spray painted on a dump truck in Cottonwood Estates cannot be shown or even repeated.

“It was just random stuff,” said Morris. “They spray painted over headlights, over tags, just down the sides of the vehicles, and some obscenities put on the vehicles.”

Lieutenant Morris said more than a dozen damage reports have been filed with the Muscle Shoals Police Department so far, and he believes that number could continue to grow.

“There was several thousands of dollars’ worth of damage done to personal properties,” Morris said.

As residents clean-up and the spray paint fades, investigators continue to look for those responsible for this criminal mischief spree.

Muscle Shoals police are asking anyone who may have surveillance video from homes close to the crime scenes to contact the police department directly.

If you have any information about those responsible, contact the Shoals Area Crime Stoppers tip line at 256-386-8685.
