HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Dozens of Boeing employees will sleep pretty well tonight. Volunteers spent all day today helping with projects at Lincoln Village and Lincoln Academy. It’s part of Boeing’s annual global month of service to give back to the local community.
“One of the priorities is to power wash,” said Tony Jones with Boeing. “As you can see, it needs a little help. We’re putting on a deck over here behind one of the houses that actually we painted last year.”
The rainy weather couldn’t keep Boeing employees away from Lincoln Village. The volunteers spent the day sweating it out and helping out the local community.
“We’ve got about 25 employees that are out here doing things such as painting, steam cleaning some of the walls, and also doing some gardening,” said Dexter Henson. Boeing’s global month of service is designed to encourage employees to volunteer during the month of July, and these men and women take it seriously.
“See those two bushes right over there?” asked Jones. “I planted those last year. It’s great to see them going.”
The volunteers feel like it’s their duty to give back to the North Alabama community. “We live in these communities and it’s important that we give back to the communities that have given us so much,” said Henson.
This isn’t the first year Boeing has volunteered at Lincoln Village. “We even saw the products of last years’ labor over at a couple of houses and decks and trees we took down,” said Jones. “Now, they’ve turned those into what you’d call habitable houses for the people to occupy so it’s very worthwhile, it’s very rewarding.”
The Boeing team organizes the cleanup day. They bring all of the supplies they need, and they get to work.
“You get to see the fruits of your labor and it’s just rewarding because these people are so grateful to have us come out and help them and we’re glad to do it.”
