It’s been a few years now since Trey Flowers wreaked havoc on opposing offenses at Columbia High School. Now he’s busting up plays at the University of Arkansas.

Flowers is one of the three Razorback players who made rounds in front of reporters at SEC Media Days 2014. Flowers got plenty of attention, and rightfully so. He’s a second team all-SEC selection who ranks 11th on Arkansas’ all time tackles for loss list.

Coming into his third season as a starter on the defensive line, Flowers knows his job on this team goes far beyond playing well on the field. He’s now a leader in the lockeroom as well.

“I understand there are a lot if guys looking up to me.  A lot of guys are inspired are how I act, what I say and what I do. I have to understand to hold myself to a higher standard and be on my a-game at all times.  That’s a role I’m willing to embrace and help these guys to be not only better players but better me off the field,” Flowers said.

Three players in particular on the Razorbacks’ team have really caught Flowers’ eye.

“You’ve got Deatrich Wise, Brandon Lewis, JaMichael Winston. Those guys have come a long way and I feel that they are mature mentally. They understand it’s going to take them to help us win,” Flowers said.

Flowers said having four different defensive coordinators in four years has been challenging, but said, “The challenge we face is terminology. It’s all defense, we’re all stopping the offense, but how you communicate with each other is probably the biggest challenge.”
