For drivers travelling north on Highway 431 in the Hampton Cove area, the left turn on to Plainview Drive is a tough one. “It is terrible. We’ve got to have something done be because there’s going to be a death,” said Linda Moore two years ago. She was worried because so many drivers were turning on to Plainview to access a Credit Union, Bank and the neighborhood that the median crossing was overwhelmed. Vehicles ended up stopping in the middle of 431 as drivers waited for a chance to turn.
We took action and discussed the situation with city and state officials. At the time, April 2012, we were told that there were no plans to put in a turn-lane. After our call, the city and state apparently began talking about the situation, and now those discussions are turning into construction. Orange work cones are in place, and the project to put a turn lane on to Plainview Drive is beginning. “I’m excited. I really am. It’s been a long time coming,” says Linda Moore.
The project at Plainview is one of several adjustments being made along 431 in the same general area. While the work goes on, the turn situation is even tougher than usual. But it’s how it will be once work is complete that excites Linda Moore, who makes the turn every day. “It’ll be a lot safer,” she says.
WHNT News 19 isn’t doing the construction work, but our efforts on the crossing helped get the ball rolling on doing something about the problem. “And I really appreciate everything you’ve done. It really has helped,” says Linda.
Helping get problems like this fixed is why we do our “Driving You Crazy” reports. Let us know about your problem. We will take action on the way to getting results.
