Huntsville, Ala. - (WHNT) Between Chattanooga and Huntsville, mark McCarter has been covering Southern League baseball for nearly four decades. That fact makes the Huntsville Times columnist a perfect person to commemorate the league's 50th anniversary.
"I've been covering the Southern League off and on since 76. I was watching as a kid in 64 when the league started. Covered it so long and have a head full of stories and memories," McCarter said from his desk inside the al.com building in downtown Huntsville. Those stories and memories are now collected in a book McCarter authored this year titles "Never A Bad Game: 50 Years of the Southern League."
Putting something like this together is a massive undertaking, especially when there are so many good stories to tell from his years covering baseball, but the experience turned out to be rewarding in the end. "The reporting to me was a blast to get to. I probably interviewed 100 people so just to have a chance to have the luxury of people who want to talk about their careers and spend 30 minutes, 45 minutes was a tremendous amount of fun to do."
McCarter is making the rounds at various book signings across the league these days. The next coming Friday July 18th at Joe Davis Stadium. The find out more about the book or to purchase a copy of you own visit the facebook page by clicking here.
