Cleaning up County Line Road

MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) - A local college student is working to make Madison a more beautiful place, one soda can and fast food wrapper at a time. Tyler Clemons has organized Operation Clean Up County Line Road.

The 21-year-old started the effort after noticing how much litter there was along the road. He was out on a run near James Clemens High School and says, "from County Line Road to Mill Road, I picked up probably five to seven pieces of trash on my way and dropped it off at McDonald's, threw it away, and I was like, 'this is kind of disgusting. Something needs to be done.'"

Clemons quickly got to work, starting a Facebook page for the event and creating a YouTube video asking volunteers to join him on Saturday, July 12th. Participants will meet at 9 a.m. at The Grove Baptist Church, located at 12300 County Line Road. By 9:30 a.m., Clemons says they'll be picking up trash along the five mile stretch between Highway 72 and Highway 20.

Volunteers are asked to bring garbage bags and gloves. Because the clean up is expected to take several hours, Clemons also suggests packing water and a bagged lunch. As for attire, sturdy shoes and brightly-colored shirts or safety vests are recommended.
