MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A woman credits smoke alarms for alerting her to a fire in her home on Thursday.  She got out safely, but her home was badly damaged.

The fire started about 12:30 p.m. at a mobile home on Norris Mill Road.  The woman who lives there says she was in the back of the house laying down, but heard the smoke alarms and quickly got outside to call for help.

Oak Ridge, Flint, Neel and Punkin Center volunteer fire departments responded.  Firefighters found flames shooting out the front window when they pulled up.

They put out the fire quickly, but there is heavy fire damage in the living room and heat and smoke damage to the rest of the home.

Fortunately, the woman has insurance.
