HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Huntsville-based nonprofit providing free school supplies to area teachers is holding a fundraiser Friday night.
Free 2 Teach’s annual Crayon Bash will be held from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday at The Lumberyard, located at 601 Meridian Street. Tickets are $50 and all proceeds benefit the organization.
In a time when many teachers reach into their own pockets to keep their classrooms stocked, the initiative helps educators – more than 3,500 across Madison County School Systems – focus on teaching rather than budgeting.
The nonprofit, located in a portion of the closed West Huntsville Elementary School building, helps keep teachers throughout Madison County’s three school systems stocked with seven must-have supplies: pencils, pens, crayons, washable markers, glue sticks, copy paper and loose leaf paper.
Other core supplies are provided to teachers when available. The stock at the group’s supply store depends largely on items and funds that are donated by the community.
The store is located at 3001 9th Ave. in Huntsville. It is open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
