Man convicted of sexual abuse sentenced to life without parole

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Madison County man convicted of sexually abusing a young child was sentenced to life without parole on Monday.

Circuit Judge Jim Smith sentenced Roland Gilbert Campos to two sentences of life without parole and two 20-year sentences.  These were for convictions of two counts of sexual abuse of a child and two counts of sodomy of a child.  The sentences will run concurrently.

The victim was 5 years old.

A jury convicted Campos, 35, in June.  During testimony in the trial, the victim’s mother said the child had recurring nightmares because of the abuse.  Prosecutor Kelly Godwin brought this up during sentencing, asking the judge for the full punishment.  That’s what Judge Smith handed down.

Prosecutors say the abuse had been going on since 2012 inside a Madison County home.
