Man convicted of sexual abuse sentenced to life without parole

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Madison County man convicted of sexually abusing a young child was sentenced to life without parole on Monday.

Circuit Judge Jim Smith sentenced Roland Gilbert Campos to two sentences of life without parole and two 20-year sentences.  These were for convictions of two counts of sexual abuse of a child and two counts of sodomy of a child.  The sentences will run concurrently.

The victim was 5 years old.

A jury convicted Campos, 35, in June.  During testimony in the trial, the victim’s mother said the child had recurring nightmares because of the abuse.  Prosecutor Kelly Godwin brought this up during sentencing, asking the judge for the full punishment.  That’s what Judge Smith handed down.

Prosecutors say the abuse had been going on since 2012 inside a Madison County home.

Perhaps the death sentence next time can make more of a deterrent for other such predators of our children to seek professional medical help before committing such crimes…

Life in prison is too good for him!!! Should have done a cutting job or hung him up by “It” and let him hang there til he died!!! I’m an old woman and if someone did that to my greatgrand children I would take care of him myself if I possibly could!!!! Too many women out there that are getting paid for sex to mess with a little child!!

I am a messianic Jew who believes in forgiveness and second chances for those who repent. Remember that the messiah promised the murdering theif that he will be in heaven with him simply because he repented. This child should have not faced this type of abuse BUT we live in a world of evil. Demons and forces of darkness attack the world non stop and those who don’t know The Lord, always fall. Forgive this man and pity him just like you pity and pray for the young child. This is a very bad situation but its outcome is up to us. Forgive and let be. This is the only way this young boy will get over this ordeal. Pray for the victim and for the perpetrator May The Lord bless them both and bless you too.

@Moe – “Forgive and let be?” That is not the way this young boy will “get over” his ordeal. Good grief. This child will need a lot of counseling and loving support from his loved ones. And he’ll never “get over” what this monster has done to him. Shame on you for even making such ridiculous and offensive comments.

@Moe, I am an atheist, but I don’t begrudge you your beliefs. However, the murdering thief was promised he would be in heaven because he repented. This person showed no remorse on the stand and took no response for his actions. If your god wants to forgive him, let him meet god face to face to make that determination.

Regarding the thief on the cross, even though he repented he was still executed. This pedophile may repent, and he may be forgiven by God, but it is still the state’s responsibility to judge and punish him for breaking the law. Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

First of all, the victim was a girl. Second, you have no clue what this young child, who had to face this monster and tell 12 strangers in detail what happened is still going through. Third, this is a man who will never retpent for his crime. He shows no regret and has never taken any responsibility for his actions. How about you speak forgiveness when you hear your 5 year old daughter described in detail how she was molested and sodomized repeatedly in her own home.

The key is in your first sentence “for those who repent”. This monster has shown no remorse whatsoever and therefore, is not worthy of forgiveness. You seem to have a misconception about forgiveness. It is not to benefit
the evil perpetrator, but rather those who have been wronged. It does not mean that the perpetrator is to not receive proper punishment nor does it mean that the victim must allow that person back into their lives in any fashion!

Head in the sand syndrome Moe? He stole the innocence and peace of mind from a child and their family. The animal that did this could have exercised will power as an adult and chose not too. They’d be praying for the perpetrator all right, but not for forgiveness and blessings!

That’s right Moe. We are Christians round these here parts. We listen to the preacher blab on and on about Jesus and we like to tell people that we are “born agin”, and then we ignore him because he was a liberal.

Moe, I am glad you can forgive him for a crime this horrible. He knew what he was doing. He knew it was wrong. He received the punishment to the maximum that the law could give. This man has never owned up to anything in his life. He has always blamed others. He doesn’t deserve a second chance. Praying for him will not change him. Where was God to protect this child? To say that those who don’t know the lord will always fall is a cruel statement to make. You don’t know the victim or the beliefs they hold. What if they do know the Lord? They should have been protected from this crime. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. If a religion or the lack there of gets you through the day to make your self a better person great. I for one don’t follow your reasoning. The man is where he belongs. Here is to hoping everyone can heal now.

Anyone who has a sexual interest in children and decides to act on it is a danger forever to children. They do what they do because they can take advantage and assume they will put fear and control in the child’s mind. They are evil and are not sorry for what they did only that they got caught! This pervert deserves to be in prison and leave the door open. Let the fun begin and see what it is like for the rest of his sorry life!

Please, please never leave this animal out of his cage. He earned every minute of it and it would be an insult and travesty to the child he molested to even think of shortening the sentence by even one minute.

God is punishing America with depraved acts like this. This man is one of Satan’s demons in human form no doubt, but God is letting them wreak havoc with their wicked ways because we have turned our backs on him. We’ve taken prayer out of schools, allowed homosexuals to run around rampant, democratic atheists to get too much power. Until we go back to the way it used to be, this country is gonna be a mess.

Maybe he is, but this child and family may be Christians who believe in God so why would God allow one of his young followers to go through this because the United states as a whole is evil. No child should go through this. It is no one fault but the sicko who did this.

    • Dagny

If what you are saying is true, perhaps god should be punished. It would seem that according to your logic the man was a victim too, being forced to do that which he wouldn’t because he was god willed it.

Crimes against children are so heinous that accused pedophiles like Campos, Sylvain Kustyan, Jerry Sandusky, etc. and their enablers must be apprehended before they have years to continue to destroy young lives. Sandusky is now safely behind bars. But unfortunately, Kustyan, who has been formally charged with two counts each of 1st Degree Sodomy and Sexual Abuse of a ten-year-old little boy, fled to avoid imminent arrest. Kustyan, formerly of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Hermin/ Mazingarbe, France, as an English teacher, has led numerous groups of schoolchildren on trips to the US, the UK and Ireland.. Pedophiles condemn their victims to a lifetime of emotional and psychological trauma and often permanent physical ailments as well. Since the average pedophile has 300 different victims in their lifetime and since the recidivism rate among pedophiles is virtually 100% and since there is no effective treatment and no known cure they must be stopped ASAP!
