REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (WHNT) -- The Huntsville community is honoring a couple who dedicated a combined 65 years to the United States Army.
At a retirement ceremony at Redstone Arsenal Friday, Major General Lynn Collyar and his wife Colonel Sarah Green were honored for those six decades of service to the United States Army.
"It's a little overwhelming to stand on that stage and see all of those people," Major General Collyar says, "I was wondering if it was warm up on the stage, or was it warm in the whole room. It's incredible, the support we've gotten from this community."
Both Major General Collyar and Colonel Green have extensive and prestigious resumes.
Major General Collyar recently served as Commander of the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command or AMCOM.
Major General James Richardson assumed that post earlier in June during a change of command ceremony.
Colonel Green served as Staff Judge Advocate for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command.
"We're proud to be soldiers, and it was such a privilege to serve, and we're just so proud we had that opportunity," Colonel Green says.
The couple married in 1999.
They plan to spend their retirement in the Huntsville community.
