Huntsville native J.D. Manders is a U.S. Army National Guard veteran as well as a children’s book author. Manders wrote this fictional tale, “The Fairy Child,” for his own children while he was deployed to Iraq in 2004 as a way to stay connected with them while they adjusted to his absence.
Inspired by classic children’s literature, the story follows two girls, whose father has gone off to war and whose mother has fallen ill, as they stumble upon a magical fairy world.
This book is now available to the public, sharing the message of self-reliance and strength.
