TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (WHNT) – The 36th annual Helen Keller Festival returns to Colbert County Monday.

For one week each summer, the small town’s population more than doubles as people from across the Southeast celebrate Tuscumbia’s most famous resident.

The festival runs through Sunday. Each day brings a different schedule of events.

Many are centered around Spring Park.

While most are free, admission is charged for a few events, including performances of The Miracle Worker.

A full festival schedule may be found here.

I always enjoy seeing the celebration of a proud member of the International Workers of the World (IWW) and advocate of socialism. Helen Keller is an inspiration. She would be very unhappy with the conservative politics of her beloved Alabama!
