Celebrating Miss Baker, one of America’s first astronauts

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)-  June 10th marked the anniversary of what is considered the birthday of Miss Baker.   The squirrel monkey was one of the first animals to be sent into space.   She returned to earth successfully and retired at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.   The story above is from late May of 1984 as Miss Baker was being honored at the center, which was then called the Alabama Space and Rocket Center.

Miss Baker died in August of 1984.  She is buried on the grounds at the center.
