Cars spill into ditch after 18 wheeler overturns near Fort Payne

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - An early-morning wreck has shut down part of Interstate 59 in DeKalb County.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. just south of Fort Payne.

A total of 10 vehicles were involved.

The driver of an 18 wheeler carrying cars says he lost control after he swerved to miss a deer.

I-59 is down to one lane southbound in the area two miles south of Fort Payne.

The wreck sent the 18 wheeler’s vehicular cargo down into a ditch.

A team of wreckers responded to the scene to help get the cars out of the ditch.

The driver was not injured.
