Major General James Richardson takes over at US Army Aviation and Missile Command

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Major General James Richardson has assumed command of the US Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM), following a ceremony at Redstone Arsenal Thursday. He replaces Major General Lynn Collyar who is retiring at the end of the month.

Major General Richardson is a native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His most recent assignment was Deputy Commanding General, United States Forces Afghanistan and Commander of the US National Support Element.

A seasoned combat leader, Major General Richardson is a Master Army Aviator who has led soldiers during six deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He tells WHNT News 19, he received tremendous support from AMCOM while overseas and he looks forward to this opportunity to now give back.
