Nashville, Ten. – (al.com)It is now official — former LSU quarterback Stephen Rivers, the younger brother of San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, is transferring to Vanderbilt.
The 6-foot-7 Rivers announced in February that he was leaving LSU and was released by the Tigers, but only to Vanderbilt among potential SEC destinations.
The Athens, Alabama, product been LSU backup quarterback in 2012 but slipped to third on the depth chart last year behind senior starter Zach Mettenberger and freshman Anthony Jennings, and freshman Brandon Harris is now competing with Jennings for the starting job. Rivers did not attempt a pass in 2013 and is 0-2 in his career.
“I took a visit there and really enjoyed it,” Rivers told NOLA.com in March. “It’s a good option for me because it’s really close to home.”
