TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — The news leaked Wednesday and was confirmed Thursday.
The long wait for Alabama legend Derrick Thomas’ election to the College Football Hall of Fame was made official in a late-morning announcement. Thomas is one of 14 players added to the hall and the 23rd with Crimson Tide connections. Former Alabama player Frank Howard is also a member, but for his accomplishments as Clemson’s coach from 1940-69.
Thomas became the first Alabama player elected since Marty Lyons made the 2011 class. The Tide had a string of three straight years with a new member from 2009-11.
