HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Despite the rain on Saturday, many came out to make Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis at Bridge Street.

The annual Great Strides 5K is a big fundraiser for CF, a life-threatening genetic disease that affects breathing and the digestive system.

Great Strides involves a lot of the community, and many businesses from Bridge Street sponsored the teams as well.

People walked in honor of friends and family members with CF.

"We come to celebrate all of our CF heroes -- our patients, their families -- and to help bring awareness about Cystic Fibrosis and what we do," said Anya Douglas, Logistics Chair for Huntsville's Great Strides walk.  Douglas is also leader of Aaron's CF Commandos, one of the teams involved in the event.

Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis also helps raise money for CF research and clinics.  The walk raised more than $30,000 in Huntsville.
