GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Dozens of people from as far as Florida came to Marshall County last year for a free day of dental work.  That same dental office is planning for an even bigger crowd crowd tomorrow.

On Friday, May 16, Total Dental Care in Guntersville will close for regular customers for a free dental care day.

"We do free extractions, we do free cleanings, we do fillings, we do everything we can to try and help people out," said Dr. Chris Harper.

The event is first come, first served for patients ages 19 and older without insurance.

Even though the office is closed, the staff, their families and sometimes even the regular patients pitch in to help do what they can to make the day run smoothly.

"There's a lot of people out there, economy's bad, and people aren't able to find jobs, and they need help, and that's what we're here for," said Dr. Aaron George.

That attitude is what drives the office to put this day of giving back on each year.

"I think it's great that there's dentists who go to other countries and do mission trips, but there's people here in our own backyard who need help, if not more," Dr. Harper says.

The event starts at 8 a.m. Friday and goes until 4 p.m.  Total Dental Care is located at 1724 Gunter Avenue in Guntersville.  The phone number is (256) 582-2248.

While I think this is a wonderful idea to get publicity, maybe it would be nice to do this ‘free’ dental work a few times a year, rather than have thousands show up for much needed dental work. Or, maybe just make a sliding fee schedule that could accommodate those less fortunate that can’t afford today’s super-inflated dental prices.

Great idea shirley!!! I also volunteer at a local free dental clinic that does free extractions every friday at the first baptist church in albertville…in addition to the free dental work we also make sure that every single patient we see also knows about the free extraction clinic and also knows about the quality of life dental clinic in gadsden that charges you according to your income!!

It has gotten to the point where nobody can afford health / dental insurance. I think its great that these services are available to folks who can’t afford it.
