(CNN) – An Ohio teacher is caught on camera grabbing a student in an apparent fit of anger. The student’s parents are enraged.

Anthony and Autumn Nelson are still stunned by what happened to their 6-year-old son Ian last Wednesday. In a video they provided to us, the Riverdale School kindergartner is walking down the hallway to go to the bathroom.

The surveillance camera then shows his teacher, Barb Williams, confront him as he steps out of the bathroom. The teacher grabs Ian and pins him up against the wall, then grabs him by the face. It doesn’t end there. She picks him up by his shirt and his head flops back.

The boys father, Anthony Nelson, told CNN “we thought it was just a little incident that happened, and that’s what the school made it out to sound like. And then all of a sudden we get this video today and this is just outrageous.”

The Nelsons say Ian had a bruise to the back of his head. A letter Tuesday from Riverdale Superintendent Eric Hoffman informed Barb Williams that she is suspended for ten days without pay.

In his words: “your repeated use of physical force was completely unwarranted and unprofessional.”

The Nelsons want her terminated. They plan to take the video to the Hancock County Sheriff’s office to pursue criminal charges.

Ian has been moved to a different kindergarten class here at the school and seems to be happier, but his parents worry this incident will have a long-term impact on him.

“He’s scared of her. Even going to the school next year or the year after, he will still have to see her if she is present in the building. That’s probably going to scare him.” Said his mother, Autumn Nelson.

Our attempts to reach the superintendent by email have not been successful. His letter to the teacher warned Williams that she’ll be fired if there is any future misconduct.

She should be fired. A parent would have to deal with Child Welfare if they were seen doing something like this. She has no business in a classroom. I would not want her around my child.

  • Santos

Yes she definitely should be fired. Who in their right mind would grab a child like that. She should face child abuse charges.

  • Karen

How many children does she have to assault before the school deems it necessary to fire her.And that’s what it is, assault. Does this school allow such behavior between students, I would think not, they should not condone an assault by a teacher. Fire her and then let it go through the legal system.

If she had done that to my child, I would be grapping her by the collar and letting her see how it feels. She had no right to do that to that child. When I got through with her she would want to leave not only the school, but the state. It makes me so mad when I see anyone mistreating a child. I believe there is a special place in hell for anyone who mistreats a child.

Look at the statement the school made in the 6th paragraph down. This is a repeated offence this teacher makes. She should have been fired long ago and lost her licence to teach.

There is no room in the schools for a student to bully someone, so who gave the right to this teacher to do the bullying? The school system in this case HAS to fire the teacher and the parents should file charges against her. As bad as this may sound she took above and beyond and into what could be considered a terrorist act.

She IS a Bully! She HAS NO RIGHT TO TEACH ANYWHERE! A teacher teaches in every form and fashion. What does this teach, that a teacher has the right to Bully??? If a parent did this to a child they would be arested, so why were not the police called by the school? The school should be held accountable for not firing her right then and there. If it were my child, the school would have a lawsuit on them and that woman would go to jail. The first phone call would have been the police! She does not have the right to be in a school anywhere!

The parents need to sue the teacher and the school! If the Union tries to protect this teacher the union should be sued as well. Sue them into oblivion!
The lady is a child abuser and should have no contact with our children at all forever!
If she has tenure then place her in a room locked up during school hours. No more child contact!

She should not only be fired, but also barred from ever working with children again. Behavior like this escalates quickly; she needs to be removed from contact with children before she ends up permanently harming or even killing a child.

I can see everyone on here bashing this woman, and I cant say that I agree with her choices in how to handle this child. How many of you have ACTUALLY seen the way that your child behaves away from you? I personally have been on field trips with a lot of peoples brats and wanted to punch them in the throat and make their teeth click. This woman does not deserve to teach kids, but I guarantee that most of the people trying to persecute her have bratty little kids that they worship. These parents get very upset when others don’t worship them as they do. There is obviously some background between the woman and the child’s parents, because its not very likely that she woke up that day and decided to grab a random person and push them into a wall.

This happens more than you know. Only difference is the school didn’t cover it up. An the school board will protect her. It’s sad to think that the schools have so much power that the law can’t touch them without going through the school board first. I’ve been through this before. It’s almost impossible to make her pay. And it dont matter how my child acts away from me. The school is a safe zone for our kids. We as parents have no real choice but to send them by law. Schools should have to follow the same laws everyone else does. This should be in a real court room for assault on a minor child. Not in a school board fake court. Where the law is not blind an always on the side of the school. Seems like a conflict of interest to me.

My daughter was in the 2nd grade when her teacher called her a (slut), because my daughter like the Policeman that came to do the DARE program at school. Took it to the superintendent of the Madison County school board. He said he’d handle it but nothing happened to her. I took my daughter out of that school and put her in a different school. That was in 1990. We finally moved from that county.
Hope you get satisfaction – she the yea he should be fired without pay and her teaching license should be taken away and charged with child abuse.
Just a thought from a mom and grandma from Alabama.
