MOULTON, Ala. (WHNT) – Three vehicles were involved in a serious wreck Wednesday morning at the intersection of Highway 33 and Highway 24 in Lawrence County, just north of Moulton.

A car, truck and passenger van were involved in the collision.  The van belongs to the Alabama Department of Corrections and had four inmates inside.

Moulton Police & Fire responded, and crews had to cut the roof off of the car to get the female driver out. No one else was in her vehicle.  She was seriously hurt, and was flown by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital.

The inmates were taken to Lawrence County Hospital, but we understand they weren’t seriously hurt.  The van’s driver was not injured, nor was the driver of the third vehicle, a truck.

Moulton Police say the inmate van was going east on Highway 24 and the car was going north on Highway 33 at the time of the collision.  The truck was stopped at the intersection and got sideswiped, police said.

Alabama State Troopers are investigating the crash.
