FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Lauderdale County man convicted of sexually abusing two girls over an extended amount of time has been sentenced.

A judge sentenced Joseph Lamont Thomas to life for sodomy, and 10 years for sexual abuse.  The sentences will run concurrently.

Thomas’ lawyer said his client planned to appeal.

A jury convicted Thomas in April after deliberating for less than 30 minutes.

Investigators in the case say the girls came forward in their late teens saying the abuse took place in the late 90’s through 2007.

Prosecutors asked for a tougher sentence due to the age of the victims and Thomas’ prior arrests.

Should have been the death penalty! He very well may have ruined the life’s of two young girls! Why should he be able to live the rest of his life out in prison funded by our tax dollars!? SICK!!!
