Two Buckhorn Seniors Sign College Swimming Scholarships
NEW MARKET, Al. – Buckhorn High School seniors Laban Jamar and Tyler Johnson signed college scholarships to swim at Lindenwood University-Belleville (Il.) on May 5.
Jamar and Johnson both swam for Buckhorn Head Coach Whitney Webster the past three seasons. Jamar placed 15th in the breaststroke at this past AHSAA state championships with a time of 1:05.7. He was seventh in the event at the North Alabama High School Championships.
Jamar also competed three years in the Rocket City Swim League for veteran Sharon Johnson Tornados Head Coach Glenn Carr. Jamar finished eighth in the breaststroke at the 2013 RCSL City Meet. His mother, Sharonne Jamar, swam for Alabama A&M University.
This past season, Johnson placed 14th in the 50 freestyle and 16th in the 100 free at the North Alabama High School Championships. He qualified for the 50 free at the AHSAA state meet. He also competed for Mt. Carmel in the RCSL.
Lindenwood, located 14 miles southeast of St. Louis, competes in the NAIA.
