HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – There are new events coming to downtown Huntsville, and we are excited to tell you about these in our Downtown Huntsville Weekly segment.
Our guest April 24 was Macy Chapman with Downtown Huntsville Inc.
Annual Huntsville Classic
The 2014 Huntsville Classic is next month. It includes a dinner and concert May 8 at the Von Braun Center, featuring The Doobie Brothers. The dinner is sold out, but tickets are still available for the concert for $30 each. Here is more information at Huntsvillehospitalfoundation.org.
The Huntsville Classic golf tournament is Saturday, May 10 at the Robert Trent Jones course in Hampton Cove.
These annual events raise money for the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.
Greene Street Market
A weekly event begins May 1 – the popular Greene Street Market. It’s held next to the Church of the Nativity, a block from the Courthouse Square.
You can buy fresh produce, artisan goods, flowers and other unique items every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. The market, and other entertainment will go longer in future weeks when more daylight is available. The Greene Street Market is every Thursday through October 2.
“Once you’ve picked up your produce or your flowers, you can enjoy the entertainment district and have a beverage from one of the bars, or go and enjoy dinner from one of the restaurants on the Square,” said Chapman.
New this year – you’ll also be able to check out a free bicycle to ride around the nearby streets. You’ll swipe your credit card to check it out, but just bring it the bike back and you won’t be charged.
