MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) --  It's a groundbreaking more than two years in the making. It took some atypical partnerships to make the expansion come to fruition.

Ray Long, Morgan County Commission Chair said, "You've got a county and a city going together to work to put forth a jail here and you just don't see that a lot."

An extremely unique feature about this partnership is that the county and city teamed up to build a jail addition before a federal judge told them it was mandatory. Morgan County is ahead of the game.

"It is unfortunate that we are building new jails. It would be wonderful if we didn't have to have jails and we didn't have folks who couldn't figure out what they were supposed to do and do right," said Sheriff Ana Franklin.

But Sheriff Franklin says, she feels the funding and the tax payer dollars will go to work to provide the best care and confinement for citizens housed behind these walls.

Yup, just a few more laws and a few more limits on the Constitution and we will all be vacationing in these new CONdos. Just gotta love the motivation for this new institutional facility.
