Big Gift For Lee High School Band

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.(WHNT)-The sweet sound of music is about to get a little sweeter at Lee High School in Huntsville.

The Marching Generals now have a little more firepower in their arsenal thanks to a timely charitable donation made Thursday¬†by the National Pawnbrokers Association and The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. The non-profit groups teamed up to give the marching band more than a dozen new and refurbished instruments, with the total retail value of the donation estimated at almost $18,000.

“These instruments are gorgeous, I’m so grateful,” said Lee High marching band member Camilla Birola. “We’ll have beautiful instruments to play while we perform. It will make just a huge difference in the sound of the band.”

Band Director Michael Knotts said the donation meant that the days of having to share instruments at practice were over.

“A new instrument in the hand is like a new Christmas toy,” said Knotts. “It changes their whole feeling about music and playing.”

The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation donates both new and quality refurbished instruments to underfunded music programs across the country.
