Danville Man Killed, Relative Seriously Hurt in Wreck on Hwy. 36 in Hartselle

HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Danville man died in a two-car collision Friday morning in Hartselle.

It happened around 9 a.m. on Highway 36 just west of Johnson Lane.  A Mercury Marquis traveling west collided with a Mitsubishi Galant headed east.

Hartselle Police say the driver of the Marquis, Alvah Wayand, age 82, died on the scene.  The passenger in the car, Waneta Wayand, 84, was flown to Huntsville Hospital.  Both are from Danville.

Jacob Owens, 25 was driving the other vehicle.  He and his passenger, Riley Owens, age 26, were treated at the scene but were not seriously hurt.  The Owens are also from Danville.

Police re-routed traffic around this area while they cleared the scene.

Hartselle Police say the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
