Decatur Police Ask for Information About Cardinal Drive Shooting


DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – Decatur Police are asking for witnesses to come forward with information about a shooting that happened on Cardinal Dr SW Wednesday evening.

Officers received a call of a shooting in the parking lot of 324 Cardinal Dr SW at 6 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a resident of the complex, 22-year-old Trever Hampton,shot twice in the leg.

Hampton would not cooperate with officers in giving information about who shot him, according to police.

He was taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit and Property Crimes Unit arrived and began an investigation. Though several people were in the area at the time of the shooting, no one has come forward with information.

    When the article states “Hampton would not cooperate with officers in giving information,” does that mean he exercised his Fifth Amendment rights? Be honest now.

    They should check on the welfare of every resident over there & make sure nobody was killed in their apartment. I’d hate to find out that the guy killed someone & was only injured in the leg while a potential victim lays dead & undiscovered because the guy chose to plead the 5th.
