BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) -- Marshall County leaders are gearing up for an event they say will be good exposure for the county.

The VFW Fairgrounds in Boaz is empty Thursday, but in just over one week it will be full of life. "We are introducing a new spring festival," Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce President Peggie Haney says, "It's the Alabama Farm and Poultry Expo and it'll be at the VFW Fairgrounds April eleventh and twelfth."

The festival is similar to an event that was held in Moulton for years. That festival won't be going on any longer, so Marshall County leaders took the opportunity to hold something similar in Boaz.

"Marshall County is huge in farming and poultry and I don't think there's a place that would be any better," Haney says.

She says the festival will boast vendors and displays from exhibitors from all over the state, and some from out of state.

"We have people coming from as far as Tifton, Georgia," Haney says, "We have exhibitors coming to have their poultry equipment, farm equipment all over the state of Alabama and Tennessee that are coming down."

County leaders say having the opportunity to hold this event in Marshall County will be good for exposure.

"We're looking for a wonderful economic impact as people come to the Farm and Poultry Expo and we're looking for years to come for this event to really grow," Haney says.

County leaders say they expect large crowds for the two-day, free event.
