UPDATE: Huntsville Fireman, 2 Others Hurt in Wreck on Hwy. 431 in Guntersville

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Three vehicles were involved in a wreck Tuesday morning in front of Guntersville High School.

The wreck happened around 8:15 a.m. on Highway 431 in the northbound lanes.

Alabama State Troopers say an 18-wheeler coming down Highway 431 from the mountain collided with two other vehicles, a city brush truck and a car.  The truck’s brakes apparently failed, troopers said.

Witnesses said the 18-wheeler blew his horn several times to get other drivers’ attention, but ended up hitting them.

The back of the brush truck landed on top of the car, injuring the driver inside, an off-duty Huntsville fireman.  We’re working to get the person’s name.  We understand he was taken to Huntsville Hospital, and is expected to recover.

The two men in the Guntersville truck were taken to Marshall Medical Center North and should be okay as well.  The driver of the 18-wheeler wasn’t hurt.

Alabama State Troopers are investigating the wreck since a Guntersville city truck was involved.

People drive to fast and careless in Guntersville. Cops there drive fast too. Probably why people think its ok.. Hate driving through there because if you go the speed limit you run the risk of getting hit…..

Did the truck driver use the runaway truck lane? I lived in Albertville for a year and every day there was a wreck on 431 it seemed. Everyone is in a big hurry to go absolutely nowhere! Cars jockey for position and perform dangerous driving actions most of the time so they aren’t “stuck” behind a truck for a few minutes. What’s the hurry people?

I also live in Boaz, and between Boaz and Albertville on 431 is a NIGHTMARE. We need more POLICE PATROL on that stretch of highway.
