GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — If you need help preparing your taxes for this year a non-profit group in Marshall County is there to help, and their services are free.
Jean Ann Moon is the director of the Marshall County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, or RSVP. “A lot of folks don’t realize we do tax returns for anybody,” Moon says.
Every tax season the organization gears up to help residents from all over the area do their taxes for free. “Have a young family, an elderly person, low-income, non-english speaking,” Moon says, “We just want to serve anyone we can.”
Moon says it doesn’t matter how much your income is, if they can help you get your taxes done, they will.
Each volunteer has to go through a course on tax law each year. Then they have to pass that course and be certified by the IRS before they can start working. “So everybody is all up to speed on the new tax laws or any credits you might have coming your way,” Moon says.
RSVP has centers scattered throughout Marshall County and one in Jackson County, but Moon says they welcome residents from all over the Tennessee Valley.
The tax preparation is offered at different locations, and there are not any appointments necessary. If you would like to learn more information about the program and find out what is required for the tax prep you’re asked to call (256) 571-7734
