HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville Fire & Rescue started a new Firefighter class on Monday, March 24th. The cadets are expected to graduate near the end of August 2014.
The class consists of 24 recruits for Huntsville Fire and 2 for Huntsville International Airport.
Trained officers will teach cadets a variety of skills necessary to be firefighters in today’s world. They will learn about hazardous materials, the latest rescue and firefighting techniques, and they will be a nationally registered, emergency medical technician.
“After a lengthy hiring process the entire department is very excited about bringing these new firefighters on board to replace retiring firefighters that have given years of service,” noted Fire Chief Howard McFarlen. “I am confident that our fire academy staff will do their finest to guarantee these new firefighters are well trained, mentally and physically prepared to continue the first-rate service Huntsville Fire & Rescue provides to the citizens of our great city.”
