LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Dozens of guns are missing from a Lauderdale County hunting supply store.
Authorities are releasing surveillance video from the early morning break-in to hopefully spark leads in the case.
Lauderdale County Chief Investigator Travis Clemmons says the quicker they can find the stolen pistols and arrest the burglars, the safer the public will be.
Clemmons said two men pulled up in front of White’s Trading Post in Greenhill just before 3 a.m. Thursday and pulled the front doors off the hinges.
Once inside, the men went to work.
“Apparently they had been planning this for some time it looks like, and they knew what they were going after,” said Clemmons.
In and out of White’s in less than four minutes, Clemmons says the men went straight for the pistol cases and immediately broke the glass to get in.
Investigators say both men were wearing baggy pants.
According to Clemmons, although the video is kind of dark, you can actually see the heavier set man’s face as he was making a run for it.
In total, investigators say the two burglars got away with 30 pistols that were displayed for sale.
“All of them that we can see are handguns, and that’s really troublesome,” Clemmons said.
Sheriff’s investigators believe the men may have been casing the store for some time.
Clemmons hopes the public will recognize the men caught on camera and help get them off the street.
Crime scene technicians were able to collect some evidence that may link them to at least one of the men responsible.
Investigators are hopeful nearby businesses may have caught the vehicle leaving the area.
