Huntsville Welcomes ‘StoryCorps’ Listening Tour

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Do you like to sit with friends and chat over a cup of coffee? Huntsville’s NPR affiliate, WLRH-FM, can help you do that and get a souvenir to keep.

The radio station is hosting StoryCorps. The national oral history project brings two friends together to record a 40-minute conversation.

The U.S. Space and Rocket Center's current CEO, Deborah Barnhart, recently spent time with the center's first CEO, Ed Buckbee, recording a listening session to kick off StoryCorps' new visit.

Organizers give a copy of the recording to the pair and send another to the Library of Congress Archives.

Eliza Bettinger, StoryCorps’ Tour Manager, says the program is done for one reason.

“We feel like listening is an act of love. That's what we always say. You know, with the people close to us, we don't always take the time to sit and just listen for 40 minutes. How often do you sit and ask questions to listen to people closest to you?” Bettinger told WHNT News 19.

The StoryCorps team expects to record 150 interviews in Huntsville over the next month. Click here to schedule a recording session.
