FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Some Shoals leaders are packing their bags and grabbing their passports for an upcoming recruitment trip.

With just under a month to prepare, Florence Mayor Mickey Haddock is ramping up for a trip that is taking him half-way around the world.

Haddock is joining a delegation of Muscle Shoals Mayor David Bradford and Shoals Economic Development President Forrest Wright and heading to Asia.

The goal of the trip Haddock said is to foster existing economic relationships and develop new ones.

“We’re okay, but we are not pleased,” explained Haddock. “We want to continue to be very aggressive and be very proactive in the recruiting of jobs into our area.”

According to Mayor Haddock, the recent success of job recruitment with Asian companies needs to be built upon.

North American Lighting, TASUS, and most recently CBC Ing., all Asian companies and suppliers of automobile parts, have opened up shop in the Shoals.

“If you can get one, then all of a sudden they begin clustering together. So those folks that have those relationships with other companies in Japan and in Korea, then yes there may be an opportunity for them and maybe a business partner to relocate,” stated Haddock.

On their 10-day trip, the group will be visiting the corporate offices of different manufacturing companies in South Korea and Japan.

Haddock said the visits will hopefully get the word out that the Shoals is open for business.

The delegation will be leaving for Asia on April 5th.

Haddock said the trip is being paid for through budgeted economic development funds with-in each entity.
