DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – Decatur Police say a man who was hit by a train Monday morning walked into the path of the train intentionally.

Police say 42-year-old Stevon Jerome Ray is the man who walked in front of the train.   He died on the scene.

He had family in the area, but was listed as homeless.

Ray was hit by a CSX train around 7 a.m.  Lt. John Crouch said the train’s conductor told investigators a man walked in front of the train at the intersection of 4th Avenue and 14th Street.

The conductor told police he watched the man remain on the tracks after he blew the train’s horn.
