PIEDMONT, Ala. (WHNT) – Police in Piedmont say a man reported missing earlier this week has been found in Mississippi. He is safe.

Freddie Perry was originally due to return home from a trip to Tennessee on Saturday evening, March 1.  Piedmont is in northeast Alabama, southeast of Gadsden.

Police said Tuesday afternoon that Perry was found in Mississippi.

Police say it appears Perry became lost and ended up in an area that he was not familiar with near Electric Mills, a small area in eastern Mississippi near the Alabama line.

Mr. Perry is a popular math teacher at Piedmont High School.  A Facebook group called “Pray for Freddie Perry” was set up to offer support during his disappearance.

Piedmont Police say they don’t have many specific details right now but say they are working to make sure Perry gets home safely.

With todays road sign system, mapping technology, smart phones and just good ol commons sense,,,,I find it very concerning that a state math teacher could become this lost without contacting someone in a timely manner,,,it just dont seem to “add” up…pun intended. Glad though he is safe and healthy.

I am EXTREMELY happy to hear he is safely at home! When I hear someone is missing and they alone it upsets me terribly. There are so many things that could happen to them. Not everyone uses all the modern devices. They just do not always see the need for them. GPS for traveling is what everyone should have for safety. Anyone can get turned around especially after dark or in a lot of traffic. Thank GOD nothing bad happened and he is home!
