City Of Madison Sets To Improve Kid’s Kingdom In Dublin Park

MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — A destination thousands of kids have visited over the last 16 years is getting a makeover.

“Can you get me?” Asks a parent to his little daughter, wearing bright yellow and swinging in one of the swings at Kid’s Kingdom. It’s a castle themed playground at Dublin Park in Madison.

The view from those swings has changed a bit over the last 16 years.

Madison Mayor Troy Trulock brought his kids here when they were small. Over the years though, the playground has started to show the years.

Trulock says the city is setting out to do something about it. “On March tenth for a month we’re going to be closing Kid’s Kingdom to renovate it, it will take us about a month. So from March tenth to April twelfth, Kid’s Kingdom will be closed.”

Peeled Paint and bare handlebars on the rings are some of the things that will be addressed. Also, the overall look will be brightened back to its original state. “The playground is important because it’s a great time for families to come out and enjoy the outdoors,” Trulock says, “You want to get your kids out of the house.”

The funding to do all of this will come through several entities. “We have the city of Madison, the Madison County Commission is helping us, and we have private investors as well,” Trulock says.

There’s funding set aside for projects like this. “In the community and in the county we want to make sure we continue to grow our community,” Trulock says, “We do have funds in the city and the county, and of course our private investors, they have community funds they put aside.”

Kristian Chesser is the customer relations manager for Landers McLarty Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, Fiat and Subaru. That company is one of the private investors.  “Our community supports us, and this is something for generations and years our community has cared about, people grew up here,” Chesser says.

Mayor Trulock is encouraging the community to come to the updated playground on April twelfth for its re-opening. “It’ll be a great thing for our community,” Trulock says.

He says kids from all over the area come to the playground. The gated playground also boasts free internet for the parents.
