LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Emergency crews responded to a natural gas leak at the International Paper plant in Courtland.

It happened at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Courtland and Red Bank Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the leak at the plant on County Road 150. Authorities say storms caused a tree to fall onto a natural gas line, causing the leak. Storms also damaged some buildings on the property of International Paper.

Officials blocked off County Road 150 for about a mile in each direction as crews worked. The road was closed for about an hour. At about 10:30 p.m. the Gas Department gave the all clear, saying the leak was no longer a threat.

No injuries were reported. The extent of damage to the buildings is not known.
