HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Toyota officials in Huntsville have a couple of big reasons to celebrate today.  The company is marking production of its three millionth engine at its Huntsville facility.

Toyota is also celebrating the announcement of the facility’s fourth expansion, to produce more V6 engines.  It means 125 new jobs for the plant.

A number of state and city officials were on hand for the big event, including Governor Robert Bentley, U.S. Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions, as well as Congressman Mo Brooks.

Brooks says he buys Toyotas himself, one recently, in fact.

“I bought that vehicle in part because of this Toyota facility here, but I bought it primarily because Toyota makes great cars, and you are responsible for that. Toyota, you are responsible for that,” said Brooks.

Toyota Manufacturing in Huntsville built a record 540,000 engines just last year. It is the only plant in the world to produce the four, six and eight-cylinder engines for Toyota vehicles.

There’s a much larger number in the picture, too: $850 million.  That’s the total investment Toyota will reach in Alabama by 2015.

The president of Toyota Alabama says the company has already done most of the hiring for the 125 new positions.
