Traffic Stalled on I-65 Near AL/TN Line
LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Alabama State Troopers are working to clear a wreck on I-65 southbound near the Alabama/Tennessee state line.
Authorities say an 18-wheeler collided with a delivery van just south of the Tennessee state line.
The driver of the van says he was headed southbound on I-65. He says traffic was going at a slow pace, of about 20 to 25 mph, due to the icy condition of the road. He says he was in the right hand lane when all of a sudden something hit his truck and he started spinning.
Officials say it appears the 18-wheeler approached the van from behind at a high rate of speed. They say as the 18-wheeler tried to go around the van, it clipped the back of the vehicle. The van spun around several times, traveling for about 150 feet down the road. The driver of the 18-wheeler continued driving down the road for another four to five miles.
The driver of the van was not hurt. The delivery van was filled with books and magazines, which spilled out all over the road.
State Troopers did catch up with the driver of the 18-wheeler and are speaking with him now.
