Three Sentenced in Shoals Murder
FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Friday morning, a judge closed the book on a 2011 Lauderdale County murder. Two of those convicted are headed to prison and the third is being released today.
Tiffany Nunley was sentenced to 198 months for manslaughter in the death of 50-year-old David Lynn Pennington. She received credit for time served in jail already, but no probation. She must also pay $5,000 restitution.
Two others involved in the case were also sentenced. John Junior Minton and Jessica Nunley had already pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution.
Minton was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He received credit for 610 days served already.
Jessica Nunley was also sentenced to 10 years and received credit for 610 days served. However, her sentence was split and suspended for 60 months on probation. She is being released from jail today.
Vickey Sue Tomlin, the victim’s sister, spoke at the sentencing. “You have taken away a loving brother,” she said.
Prosecutors say Tiffany Nunley entered Pennington’s house and stabbed him several times while Minton and Jessica Nunley sat in a car outside, waiting for more than an hour.
Minton told prosecutors he had driven Tiffany Nunley to Pennington’s home in the past, so she could swap sex for money and drugs. Minton said Tiffany Nunley came out of the house about an hour after she went in, with blood all over her clothes. Minton said she got in the car and told him to drive. Neither Jessica Nunley nor Minton tried to stop the getaway.
Prosecutors say Pennington’s family has accepted the plea agreements with the three suspects.
