Crimson Tide Finishes with No. 1 Recruiting Class in 2014

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama announced Wednesday that 19 student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play football with the Crimson Tide, joining eight players who enrolled at the Capstone in January and will compete in spring practice later this semester.

The 27 total players, including eight mid-year enrollees and one FBS transfer, come from 15 states – Alabama (8), Louisiana (4), Georgia (2), Florida (2), Arkansas (1), California (1), Colorado (1), Iowa (1), Minnesota (1), North Carolina (1), Ohio (1), Oklahoma (1), South Carolina (1), Texas (1) and Virginia (1).

As of 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Alabama’s 2014 signing class ranked first nationally by 247Sports, ESPN, Rivals.com and Scout.

As listed by position, the Crimson Tide add to their roster six offensive linemen, six defensive linemen, four defensive backs, four linebackers, two quarterbacks, two wide receivers, one athlete, one tight end and one punter.

Eight players – Tony Brown (DB), David Cornwell (QB), Shaun Dion Hamilton (LB), Laurence “Hootie” Jones (DB), D.J. Pettway (DL), Jarran Reed (DL), Cam Robinson (OL) and Cam Sims (WR) – are already attending classes at the University. They all enrolled in January, began taking classes for the spring 2014 semester and will be able to participate in Alabama’s spring football practices.

The class also includes junior quarterback Jake Coker, who is expected to arrive on campus this summer after finishing his undergraduate degree at Florida State. The other 18 players signed national letters of intent today. The Crimson Tide had seven players in enroll in the spring of 2013, seven in 2012, nine in 2011, 11 in 2010 and four in 2009.
